THE ART STYLE
The Warner Bros. Cartoon style is colorful with a funky flow of movement. The movements are simple but with distinctive elements. The style has rounded and soft angles with a certain feature being emphasized through color or size. The style is cartoony through the simplicity of the characters.
The style was introduced by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising in 1930 and 1931. The two were hired as animators by Leon Schlesinger, who was the founder of Warner Bros. Cartoons, which was known as Leon Schlesinger Productions. They were originally from Walt Disney's City Cartoon Studio. Schlesinger would sell his company to the Warner Brothers in 1944 where they adopted the name Warner Bros. Cartoons.
Starting off
Moving pictures were just rising. Sam warner worked as a projectionist at an amusement park which caused him to be surrounded by motion pictures, giving Sam Warner the chance to see the possibilities of film making, causing him to want to make it big in projecting. He convinced his brothers Harry and Albert Warner to help him purchase a projector. At the time, animators like Chuck Jones and Ben Hardaway were coming out with animated shorts. Hugh Harman and Rudolf Rising had started Looney tunes with their character Bastle the Talking Kid. The character taught them how to animate lip syncing.
The style inspired more brash and reckless animations through their looney tunes and Merrie Melodies characters
